Protect Waterways With Riparian Buffers (Cambridge)

Description

Learn about an array of practices to protect riparian areas on your farm or property by strategically planting trees and shrubs next to water bodies!

See examples of this agroforestry practice at work at Boneyard Farm, a diversified farm in Cambridge. Check out their processes for establishing stream buffers, in-stream wood additions, livestock exclusion fencing, and planning hedgerows of native plants to support pollinators and biodiversity. Hannah and John Doyle conserved and purchased this former conventional dairy in March 2021 and have prioritized conservation projects as they grow their diversified organic vegetable, pastured meat, flower, and preserved-goods operation. Our hosts will discuss their motivations for pursuing these projects and the many organizations supporting this work. Representatives from NOFA-VT, the Vermont Land Trust, and Franklin County Natural Resource Conservation District will attend as resources.
