Community Action Workshop: Farm Security Fund

Description

The climate is changing, and farmers are on the frontlines, weathering floods, hurricanes, cold snaps, and droughts. They are adapting every day to the small changes and challenges. But some impacts of climate change are too big, and need our collective response and support. Whether you are a farmer yourself, or you depend on farmers, we all need to take crucial steps to ensure our working landscapes remain in the hands of those who tend them and our communities stay fed.

We're working with farmers and partner organizations for state funding for a climate impact recovery fund for farms—the Farm Security Fund. Farmers give their all to nourish our communities and our climate resiliency. We’re all counting on them. We need to make sure that farmers can count on Vermont.

Let's get together and build the future we need. Whether you're ready to lead the charge or are just curious to learn more, please join us at an upcoming Community Action Workshop and get involved!

Farmers, producers, and Vermonters who see the importance of supporting local farms and our thriving local food system are welcome to participate! We’ll create a shared understanding of the pivotal importance of farm security to Vermont, learn more about this emerging campaign to pass legislation for our farms, and we’ll take action together.

Who these workshops are for: Farmers and all Vermonters who see the importance of supporting local farms and our thriving local food system.

What to expect: You'll hear from farmers in your community who are experiencing climate impacts firsthand, and have a chance to talk with your neighbors about why farms and farmers matter to Vermont. NOFA-VT staff and leaders will share information about the new legislative campaign to keep farms resilient in the face of our changing climate. Then, we'll take collective action and learn about key ways to build momentum using the tools we already have or can learn from one another.

Food: We’ll provide snacks and you’re welcome to bring more for yourself or to share.

Children: Children are welcome in the workshop. We’ll have some coloring books and puzzles if anyone wants a break from learning about the campaign.

Accessibility needs: Accessibility needs and requests? Drop us a note and let’s talk them through. We want everyone to have what they need to be able to participate!
